So for the past couple months my 2013 Wrangler's steering was getting progressively heavier, especially at low speeds when parking, and there was this faint whine that got louder when I turned the wheel at idle. I kept putting it off because I assumed it was the pump on its way out and that meant a big bill. Eventually it got bad enough that my wife refused to drive it, so I started asking around and someone in a local Jeep group recommended a place in Mussafah for Quality power steering service in Abu Dhabi. Honestly I was skeptical because I've been burned before by shops that just top up fluid and call it a day, but these guys actually flushed the whole system, replaced the reservoir which apparently has a tiny filter inside that clogs up, and showed me the old fluid which was basically black. The difference is night and day, steering is light again and the whine is completely gone. What surprised me is they said the pump was fine all along and the real culprit was the clogged reservoir starving it. Has anyone else run into that? I had no idea that little filter even existed and now I'm wondering how often it should be changed because nobody ever mentioned it during my regular services. Anyway just thought I'd share in case someone else is living with a noisy steering and assuming the worst.
